Since we are nearing our half way point in Turku we thought we would share some of our favourite parts of the city. One of the best things about Turku are the Scooters, at the start of our time here we used them to tour the city, squeezing in as many sights as possible.

As much fun as the scooters are, our bank accounts didn't enjoy it as much so we had to limit our use. Words cannot describe the joy of scooting to a night out, kept warm by your overalls. The overalls are another great thing about Universities in Finland, they are one of the key things of a night out. On nights out you collect badges which you can sew onto your overalls - the more badges the more parties you have been to! We all love them (apart from Michael cause he is boring and hasn't got a pair) and they are great for keeping you warm on the walk to and from your night out.

Since arriving in Turku, we have noticed that the drink prices are pretty expensive! So far our favourite place for a night out would be Heidis, it is always great on a Thursday night filled with dancing on the tables, cheap beer and of course a McDonalds on the way home. We have also recently discovered the pool hall AuraBiljardi, this place is great fun and it is only €8 per table per hour and the beers are slightly cheaper than normals bars. Another great bar (especially in the summer months) is Walo Rooftop bar. Even though your bank account won't appreciate you going there it has great views of the city and amazing cocktails, definitely one for when the parents come to visit!
One thing that is cheap in Finland is the transport, a Foli monthly bus pass is only €36 and that includes the use of the city's public bikes. Both of these are great ways to get to the university and also a cheap way to explore Turku and the surrounding area. In the first few months, we mainly used the bikes to get around but now that autumn has kicked in we get the bus as it is much warmer. One downside to the bikes is some of them are in need of a little TLC with seats not staying up and broken gears which can make the cycle to uni a tough one!
As you can probably tell we have loved Turku and are looking forward to seeing what it is like as the winter approaches.
