To provide us with a background into engineering in Finland, we were invited to the Alihankinta Trade Fair for engineering subcontractors. The trade fair was based in Tampere and had over 1000 exhibitors from Finland and the surrounding countries. Our highlights included a Estonian defence contractor, a varied selection of robotics and automation companies, and of course Valmet Automotive. Valmet had a large stand adversiting their services, and specifically the Scouter (one of their recent projects).
The Scouter is a light electric vehicle which can seat two people. It is an innovative mobility solution as despite its size you can drive it anywhere you could ride a bike. Valmet Automotive has been responsible for the engineering of the vehicle, including the electronic transmission, chassis and bodywork. It has been a novel project for Valmet but they have been able to draw on their experience with electric cars and automotive construction.
Overall the trade fair was a very interesting experience as it opened our eyes to the engineering industry in this area of the world.
